Bessie
Wilson Craine arrived here in the Squak valley in 1885, when she was three
years old. Over time, she wrote down her experiences growing up in the
area. The final handwritten manuscript was complete in 1963, when she was
in her 80's. The original 69 page paperback edition was published by the
Issaquah Historical Society in 1983, with a forward by Harriet Fish. From
a review by Lucile McDonald, Seattle Times
Small Book on Issaquah History is a Gem For those who delight in
collecting memorabilia of the Puget Sound country here is a little gem, a
complete story of the childhood and young womanhood of a resident of Issaquah
in its early days. In describing her own life the author managed to include
a chronicle of the community's development, from a few isolated homesteads to
a busy coal-mining town.
