Autumn History Program
The Restoration of King Street Station
Saturday, October 13, 2007, 11am

Construction on the King Street Station began in 1904 and finished in 1906. When completed, the station (the end of the Northern Pacific line that once ran through Issaquah) featured an ornate ceiling, a grand staircase to the street level, and marble support columns -- not to mention the 242 foot clock tower, modeled after the Campanile di San Marco in Venice, Italy. Over the years, however, many of these features were removed or obscured. Right now, Amtrak, WSDOT and the Burlington Northern & Santa Fe are teaming up to restore the station to its original grandeur. Ron Sheck, the project manager for this renovation, will give a presentation about the station's original architecture, and the process of restoring the station.
